PRF Facial Rejuvenation

PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) versus Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

Almost two decades have passed since platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) was first introduced. Initially, the primary objective was to develop a therapy where platelet concentrates could be introduced into wounds by effectively utilizing the body’s natural healing capacity. This was achieved by collecting growth factors derived from blood in a natural way. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-rich growth factor (PRGF) had been commercialized, yet both contained secondary byproducts that were both unnatural and known inhibitors of wound healing. By removing these products and modifying production protocol, PRF was introduced some years later with the potential to impact many fields of medicine including dentistry markedly.

Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is a by-product of blood that is rich in platelets. This treatment involves the collection of your blood which is spun in a centrifuge to separate the plasma and the platelets. The platelet-rich fibrin is then injected back into your skin to stimulate new collagen production and to revive your cells into rejuvenating themselves. Areas of treatment include cheeks and mid-face, wrinkles around eyes, smile lines and nasolabial folds. Improvements in skin tone and texture can be noticeable in three weeks and continues to improve for the next 6 to 8 months with new collagen growth. For best results, I recommended four treatments with results usually lasting two years or more.
